Long before Lady Liberty ever lifted her torch over New York Harbor, another Lady of Liberty was already carrying the light, calling God's people to arise.

Of all the titles Deborah could have chosen for herself, she simply called herself, "a mother in Israel." Not prophetess. Not judge. Not military leader. Not the woman who helped save a nation.

A mother.

Deborah was the woman of Lappidoth, a name meaning "torches" or "firebrands." Somehow, that feels exactly right. She was a wise counselor, a fearless leader, and a woman whose faith set hearts on holy fire. More than three thousand years later, she is still passing the torch.

Arise.

I think our world is longing for women like that again. Women who carry His light into dark places. Women who speak hope when others speak fear. Women who remind others whose they are. Women who leave every heart they touch burning a little brighter.
