When I was little, I loved singing, "Jesus wants me for a sunbeam." I imagined bright yellow rays of sunshine and smiling faces. I don't think I realized then what a sunbeam actually is. A sunbeam has no light of its own. It simply reflects the light of the Son. Maybe that's what Jesus was trying to teach me all along.

He never asked us to become the Light. He simply invited us to reflect His. Every act of kindness, every word of encouragement, every quiet prayer, every moment we choose forgiveness over resentment, hope over fear, and faith over doubt becomes another ray pointing someone back to Him.

The beautiful thing about a sunbeam is that it doesn't have to strive. It doesn't have to manufacture light. It simply stays close to the Source. Maybe that's what discipleship looks like. Not trying harder to shine, but drawing closer to the Son. The closer we come to Him, the more naturally His light begins to shine through us. And that matters because before long, someone else's darkest day becomes a little brighter simply because they caught a glimpse of Him reflected in you.
