Surrendering My heART to the Master:
He Heals My Color Blindness with the Simple ABCs—
Awake, Balance, Center, Shine”

Awaking

In 2020, the unexpected strike of Covid turned the entire world upside down in a commotion of heated opinions and a desperate search for truth and answers. Mental illness, depression, anxiety, and crises of faith skyrocketed. Amidst the chaos, as the heat of opposition increased, I found myself on a personal quest for greater resilience—emotionally, physically, intellectually, and spiritually. My already year-and-a-half-long 10-minute daily habit of mindfulness deepened as I paired it with 38-degree cold plunges six days a week. The effect was transformative. As I slowed down, my senses came alive, and I became fully awake to the everyday wonders I had been missing. The pandemic created a sacred pause, giving me a chance to reassess my life. Before everything changed, I had just graduated from the Milan Art Institute, completely focused on chasing my art dreams. I would paint until 2 or 3 a.m., fully absorbed in my passion, even as my health declined. I couldn’t put the brush down. But when the world slowed down, so did I—and I awakened to see things with fresh eyes.

Balancing

It’s not like I was wasting time—every day, I showed up for my family, my community, and God. But when I laid it all on the altar, I had to admit something difficult: I wasn’t in balance. There were so many essential colors in my palette that I was neglecting. It turns out, focusing too much on just one color—no matter how beautiful—can distort our vision, rob our joy, and leave us color blind. How rich is any painting if it’s created with only one color and brush? Have you ever felt lost in a drab place, wondering where all the vibrant colors of your life have gone? Have you ever eye of the tiger chased your dreams with all your might, only to stop, look around, and wonder, “Where am I?” I did. The foundation of my day had slipped. I was pouring so much energy into my art that other important things—like who I truly am—were quietly fading. It wasn’t obvious at first, but when I paused, it became clear. I surrendered control, creating a balanced daily dance rich with vibrant spontaneous abstract play, tamed with quiet soft reflection and structured with the repeated disciplined strokes of character.

Centering

That’s when I stopped simply checking off my to-do list and truly surrendered my heART beat to Him. Goals, schedules, and lists became less about achievement and more about finding the rhythm I craved, filling my soul with priceless joy. I handed Him the paintbrush and let the Master guide me. Drinking deeply and intentionally from His Living Water each day filled my heART to overflowing. I’m still an artist with big dreams—just like you have your own God-given talents—but it no longer defines me. I realized how easily I could get caught up in my pursuits and lose sight of God, my true identity, and my relationships. Far from perfect, yet centered in His mighty love, together we are creating a balanced rhythm in all areas of wellness, both on and off the canvas. I continually ask Him to open my eyes to see as He does. In this lifelong process of centering my gaze on Him, I find myself imperfectly whole—through His perfect grace—because I want Him to be my sunrise, my night’s dream, and my every heartbeat in between.

Shining

The truth is, we are so much more than what we create or accomplish. We are beloved children of God, called to “let our light shine before men that they may see our good works and glorify our Father in Heaven.” The best part? With each of us, He desires to create us into His uniquely awe-striking masterpieces, more wondrous than anything we could become on our own. His process isn’t fast or cheap, and parts of it are ruthlessly ugly—but as I lean into the unknown, I begin to appreciate and enjoy this slow, graceful dance with the Prince of Peace. He breathes a sparkle into my eye, whispering His promises of vision: “The light of your body is your eye: if therefore your eye is single on Me, your whole body shall be filled with My light.” Now, when I approach the canvas, I create with eyes and heart oh Him, ready to let His light shine in every corner of my life. As He continues to heal my blindness and give me a 2020 vision correction, I see more of God, my true identity, and, friend, I see you—each of us shining His light through the sacred talents He has blessed us with. Keep shining Him thru being the One and Only YOU!

Yoga is more than just exercise for your body. It’s a way of being in the world. When you work out you don’t just benefit during the time you are working out. Your body changes and you are strengthened the other 23 hours in that day! It is the same with mindfulness. You learn to become still, to concentrate, to allow, to let go of control...being still is some of the hardest work we will ever do! In this age it’s all about accomplish more, do more, get more...but what is all the doing and getting if we never soak in what we have? I love the ordinary moments. #yogalife #godobe #artfulliving #jodeehuishart #highlightinginnerbeauty
Covid...Rona...Quarentined...however you want to label our current state of being. The beauty of it is where we are right now. The journey is exciting whether the waters of life are still, storming or perfect for surfing. Too often we want what we can’t have. Let’s not wish these days away but embrace them for what they are! I have loved every minute of this phase. Too still...nah! Too boring? Not enough social...nope...it’s been beautiful to just be and less doing. I get sucked in wherever I am and time just disappears. Whoever I’m with it’s them, it’s the environment that surrounds us, it’s the smells, it’s the touches on your skin and the feeling on your face when you close your eyes. Every day it feels so good to truly live. Life 🤟🏻#lifeartfully #jodeehuishart #highlightinginnerbeauty #inspirationalquotes #mindfulness #godobe
As sons and daughters of a great Creator we each possess the ability to create...memories, relationships, music, art, health, scientific discoveries, ambiance, a home, community, the practical and the impractical. With imagination the possibilities of a rolling pin, a lasso, a glue gun, crayons, a mini van, a hammer, a microphone, a ball, a yoga mat or any other tool become a a wand instrumental in unveiling beauty and magic. Put down the remote...Wake up to the possibilities around you and intentionally paint the season, your day...your life. 💫✨#glendathegoodwitch #creatingmemories #halloween2019

It’s been a year of surrender for me. My first quarterly goal of 2019 was to do mindfulness every morning before anything else. I have continued to do that for 10 months now. It has been a game changer to surrender the schedule and all the passionate to do’s to embrace the day with quite stillness. This extremely challenging exercise of sitting still to focus on breathing and thinking nothing is one powerful teacher for the soul and mind. It is learning to be still. To breathe it all in. Throughout the day I am strengthened to be alive! I am learning to be present amidst whatever stressful circumstances that might swirl around me. It has strengthened my ability to be more accepting of what is.
Taking yoga with Amanda every Friday also teaches me to let the world melt away. She is a beautiful soul and has been the inspiration for my yoga painting series. Pretty much she is a constant ray of joy.
Russell M. Nelson says it best...
“The joy we feel has little to do with the circumstances of our lives and everything to do with the focus of our lives.”

In yoga the word namaste is a goodbye spoken in reverence frequently accompanied with a slight bow, and hands pressed together, palms connecting and fingers reaching ever upwards. Ones thumbs thoughtfully centered at the heart. This soul stirring expression and tender gesture deeply express “the divine in me recognizes and honors the divine in you.” Namaste is at the heart of my every painting as I have deep awe and respect for the divine gifts that others work so tirelessly to create in whatever field of passion they are braving. So I say Namaste to you dear friends. You were born from rich Divinity.
@alpepper thank you for embodying these principles and allowing me to capture your beautiful soul.

Have you ever considered how much there is to learn from flowers? A flower starts so ordinary and plain in the eyes of the world. She must first bloom on the inside before she can break through to unveil what she has always been. A flower does not fear the scalding desert, the reputable mud, nor a lifeless cold sidewalk she finds away in the bleakest conditions to break forth and grow. She is determined to exist for the pure sake of adding her own unique contribution to this world. Even when others may judge or compare her to other flowers...she does not wilt in shame. She just twirls and does her thing arrayed in all her splendid and unique glory.
Oh what powerful truths women can learn from the strength of a flower.

Often the most uniquely transcending beauty springs from lack of water, swirling monsoons and brutally scorching heat. I hold a high respect for the deep rooted beauty of such individual heroes. Bask freely in their life giving energy and drink from their abundant oasis. 💜

Inhale. Exhale. It’s Friday and that means breathing in the first part of my day with my amazing yoga instructor @alpepper at @powercoreplus. Still on a high from beginning yesterday’s painting “Namaste” and with paint still under my nails I embrace surrender, mindfulness, harmony, stretching, reaching, releasing, embracing and allowing. Heart centered. Drink it up...this is yoga. The divine in me honors the divine in you...THIS is what I paint. 💞

IT’s MY BDAY WEEKEND! 🎉💖I have one little bday wish this year! To raise a birthday drink with YOU! It will take 5 min of your time and less than $5...to donate the amount of your fav drink! With this little small act we can give others clean water for a LIFETIME! Almost a billion people on our planet don’t have access to clean drinking water! I can’t even imagine drinking swamp infested water, not having showers, and breaking my back walking 4 hours every day just to fetch dirty water for my family. 1 in 10 people live this way in 2019! If it was me without clean water I would be hoping against hope that somewhere in this world someone would give $5 and $5min. Xoxo We are so spoiled to have clean water every day!! charity: water is an epic non-profit that is building wells and water projects all over the world. The coolest part is 100% of what you donate to them goes to getting people clean water and they prove it! Thank you so much for donating I cant wait to share with you where our money went and how it blessed individual people!!

There are so many every day heroes all around us in science, technology, sports, politics, our schools, our homes...they are everywhere. They are you! You are fighting your own personal grueling battles every day! You are more than surviving...you are learning, growing, reaching new heights and at times your feet even take flight and you soar. Thank you for the daily battles you fight and overcome. Keep fueling the fire and burning bright! You can here to blaze trails of glory! 💓

There is opposition in all choices. Simply choose the right. Boldly push past the half empty glass of dark existence! Grab hold of your paintbrush like you mean it! Wildly imagine all the endless possibilites this world holds for you! With every waking moment, go where you are supposed to go. Do what you are suppose to do. Become who you came here to become.

“I’m Losing Time Again” This is my life! I LOVE the present moment...As the years pass I learn to embrace it more and more. I love to get lost in where I am soaking up people and places with all 5 senses. I am inspired by those who get lost in their own passions. It is a breathtaking opportunity as creators in any field to abandon the limits of the space around you...to go beyond time and truly live to discover more and more of who you are.

Permanently upon my heart are footprints of all different sizes, shapes, styles, and hues. Some of my greatest treasures in life were as a little girl and teenager having those big footsteps who had gone before me. Parents, Grandparents, Teachers, Youth Leaders and Adults in the community. Some of them had collected and become light so bright on the pathway of life and their pure love so powerful it shined a light before me to follow. And now as I am an adult I find that amongst all of my peers that one of the brightest lights and footsteps to follow are those I have to look back and down to find...to truly behold the power of the children around me. They LOVE with their whole heart, they dream wildly, they play, they laugh, they believe, they imagine, they tell you how much they love you and then tell you again, they share, they embrace, and they forgive.
This sweet little friend of mine visits me often at my art studio and showers me with love notes and hugs. This week she brought me a purse that she sewed for me and then stuck around to help me put away my Christmas decorations!😭💓🎁 Life has taught me that there aren’t any footsteps that are too small..too insignificant...to make room for and to learn from. In fact I find that the littlest footprints upon my heart are often the sweetest.
