Oh, Ruth... isn't it strange how a season of drought can still leave us feeling like we're drowning?
A famine had stripped away almost everything you thought your future would be. You had lost your husband, your home, your security, and found yourself standing at a crossroads with almost nothing left to hold onto. You could have returned to everything familiar. Instead, you chose covenant over comfort.
"Whither thou goest, I will go; and where thou lodgest, I will lodge: thy people shall be my people... and thy God my God... where thou diest, will I die, and there will I be buried." — Ruth 1:16–17
Those weren't the words of a bride. They were the words of a disciple who was all in. You weren't simply choosing to stay with Naomi. You had found your first love. Even in your darkest storm, your heart never stopped turning toward the Son. You left everything behind to follow Him with your whole heart. He met your famine with a field of grain. One handful at a time, the woman who walked into Bethlehem with empty hands found herself swept up in a flood of blessings she never could have imagined.
Maybe that's why your story still speaks to us. Most of us know what it feels like to live through a famine of some kind. We hunger. We thirst. We wonder if anything beautiful could possibly grow again.
When Jesus whispers, "Come and see," I wonder if our hearts still answer with Ruth's words:
"Whither Thou goest, I will go; and where Thou lodgest, I will lodge: Thy people shall be my people... and Thy God my God... where Thou diest, will I die, and there will I be buried."
Not because we know where He's leading...
but because we know Who is leading us.
